Your coursework
Your files and privacy.
Here is how course files are handled in Knowable, and what to expect when you remove them.
What happens when I upload a file?
Your uploaded file is stored with the course in your account. Knowable extracts its text and stores searchable passages so it can use your coursework in search, study plans, and lessons.
Text from your materials is processed by external AI services to support search and generate study content. Only upload material you have permission to use, and avoid including sensitive personal information.
How do I remove an uploaded file?
Open your course’s materials and delete the file. This removes the material and its extracted passages from your course’s search index. Removal of the stored attachment is handled in the background.
Does deleting a file remove everything made from it?
No. Lessons and saved documents already generated from that material are stored separately and may still contain information from it. Deleting the original file does not automatically delete that content.
If you need help removing information from generated content, contact us.
Questions about storage or AI processing?
For questions about retention, backups, or how AI providers handle submitted text, email hello@updates.knowablestudy.com. This page does not promise immediate removal from backups or a fixed retention period for external services.
